Grace breaking the walls
Religie/Christendom | Gedichten | 03 Juli 2010 | 20:25:59

Grace breaking the walls

Lord, break me

Break my heart,

break it so it will only bow for You

Break my will,

break it so it’s subjected to Your will

Lord, I surrender

I surrender my life to You

I surrender my habits to You

I surrender my excuses to You

I surrender my heart, my will to You

Lord, it is all to You

You break through the walls

through the walls of my heart

Victory is on its way

Victory through surrender

Lord, You heal me

You are my Healer

You are my Saviour

Thank You for saving me

For giving me another chance

Through His grace I am saved

Now I stand strong in His grace

Grace is all I need

It is enough for me

Today I’m a newer person than yesterday

Today is a new day

Another day the Lord has made

With its own sorrow and problems

But Jesus is by my side

And I see the sun shining through the clouds

Your place in God's family
Religie/Christendom | Overdenkingen | 22 December 2009 | 21:15:02

Your place in God's family

December 18, 2009

And all who believed were together and had all things in common.

--Acts 2:44

Most people today don't know what real Christian fellowship looks like. Some people think of it is as grabbing some coffee in the hallway after church.

But the kind of fellowship that God wants you and me to experience as a part of the empowered church of today goes so much deeper than that.

In Greek, the word for "fellowship" is koinonia and it means to share life together, or to hold things in common. And the first thing that we have in common, according to 1 John, is fellowship with God. And because of our fellowship with him, you and I have fellowship with one another!

You see, we aren't just some detached collection of strangers aimlessly moving through life. We have been brought together in Christ. We are family—brothers and sisters who share a common father, a common life, a common unity, and a common purpose.

Church isn't just some place that you go to. It's the people with whom you belong! Our fellowship is a testimony to the world that we are one body, that we believe together and we belong together. I hope you are experiencing this kind of fellowship in your life.

You are not destined to go it alone. You are part of a spiritual family who needs you, just as you need them.

CHURCH ISN'T JUST SOME PLACE YOU GO TO.
IT'S THE PEOPLE WITH WHOM YOU BELONG!

The God who saves
Religie/Christendom | Overdenkingen | 22 December 2009 | 15:09:18

The God who saves

December 22, 2009

"She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

--Matthew 1:21

There's no story in Scripture as wondrous and as miraculous as the story of Jesus coming to earth. I like to call it God's "glorious impossible" mission to rescue mankind.

You see, without Christ, mankind was completely helpless. We couldn't pull ourselves up by our spiritual bootstraps. There was nothing we could do to save ourselves. We had broken God's commandments, and sin separated us from God eternally. There was nothing that we could do to merit God's grace or forgiveness.

But while we were helpless to save ourselves, we weren't hopeless. Jesus' glorious impossible mission was our salvation!

In Luke 19:10, Jesus said this about his purpose, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." His mission was to "seek and to save"! In fact, his very name, Jesus, means "God will save"!

Apart from Jesus, we would face certain judgment. Apart from our Savior, there is nothing but death. But Jesus came to turn our despair into hope, our sorrow and sadness into joy, and our fear into peace! What we could not do for ourselves, he has done for us.

So this Christmas, rejoice! Your Savior was born! And he was born that you might be born again. He is your Jesus, the God who saves.

JESUS' GLORIOUS IMPOSSIBLE MISSION IS OUR SALVATION!

The promise of Christmas
Religie/Christendom | Overdenkingen | 21 December 2009 | 23:39:18

The promise of Christmas

December 21, 2009

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

--Matthew 1:23

The Christmas season is an amazing time of year, isn't it? But in reality, every day is Christmas for the Christian. It's absolutely true. You and I can experience the reality and the power of the advent of Christ in our lives every day.

The promise of his coming resides in the very name the angel used to announce his birth: Emmanuel, which means "God with us." This is the glorious gift of God to all who believe! In Christ Jesus, God is with us, God is for us, and God is in us!

You see, his coming can do more than fill our hearts with joy at Christmastime. It can fill our lives with daily joy and purpose!

So when Christmas has passed, when all the packages are unwrapped and all the food has been eaten, you don't have to spend one minute wondering, "Is this all there is?" You have the assurance that there is so much more because Christ has come to earth and into your life!

Embrace the advent of Christ today and every day of your life. And rejoice that he has given you the greatest gift that he can give. He has given you himself.

THIS IS THE GLORIOUS PROMISE OF CHRISTMAS: GOD IS WITH US, GOD IS FOR US, AND GOD IS IN US!

Pursue the Virtue of Contentment

Pursue the Virtue of Contentment
by Max Lucado

A businessman bought popcorn from an old street vendor each day after lunch. He once arrived to find the peddler closing up his stand at noon. "Is something wrong?" he asked.

A smile wrinkled the seller's leathery face. "By no means. All is well."

"Then why are you closing your popcorn stand?"

"So I can go to my house, sit on my porch, and sip tea with my wife."

The man of commerce objected. "But the day is still young. You can still sell."

"No need to," the stand owner replied. "I've made enough money for today."

"Enough? Absurd. You should keep working."

The spry old man stopped and stared at his well-dressed visitor. "And why should I keep working?"

"To sell more popcorn."

"And why sell more popcorn?"

"Because the more popcorn you sell, the more money you make. The more money you make, the richer you are. The richer you are, the more popcorn stands you can buy. The more popcorn stands you buy, the more peddlers sell your product, and the richer you become. And when you have enough, you can stop working, sell your popcorn stands, stay home, and sit on the porch with your wife and drink tea."

The popcorn man smiled. "I can do that today. I guess I have enough."

Wise was the one who wrote, "Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income" (Eccles. 5:10 NIV).

Don't heed greed.

Greed makes a poor job counselor.

Greed has a growling stomach. Feed it, and you risk more than budget-busting debt. You risk losing purpose. Greed can seduce you out of your sweet spot.

Before you change your job title, examine your perspective toward life. Success is not defined by position or pay scale but by this: doing the most what you do the best.

Parents, give that counsel to your kids. Tell them to do what they love to do so well that someone pays them to do it.

Spouses, urge your mate to choose satisfaction over salary. Better to be married to a happy person who has a thin wallet than a miserable person with a thick one. Besides, "a pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life" (Prov. 13:7 MSG).

Pursue the virtue of contentment. "Godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Tim. 6:6 NIV). When choosing or changing jobs, be careful. Consult your design. Consult your Designer. But never consult your greed.

We are more than conquerors through him who loved us
Religie/Christendom | Overdenkingen | 07 December 2009 | 17:46:48

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

--Romans 8:37

As a Christian, is it wrong to want to succeed? Is it wrong to be competitive?

Not at all! As a believer, God can take your drive to succeed, your passion for success, and your competitive edge and refocus it for His glory.

Our Scripture verse says "We are more than conquerors through him who loved us." God wants us to live in super, abundant victory.

We are in this race of life to win. Paul puts it this way in Corinthians, "Therefore, run to win." Don't just finish, win!

Now there are accusers and opponents that try to keep Christians from winning. The devil is our adversary. He is called the accuser of the brother in the Bible. The devil is constantly trying to discourage us, defeat us, and defame our testimony.

But I want to warn you against focusing on the devil today. Don't let the devil distract you from the victory you have in Jesus Christ. Don't be on the defense in life. Play offense. And run to win!

WHEN YOU KNOW JESUS, HE WILL TAKE YOUR DRIVE TO SUCCEED, YOUR PASSION FOR SUCCESS, AND YOUR COMPETITIVE EDGE AND REFOCUS IT FOR HIS GLORY

Rejoice in the Lord always.
Religie/Christendom | Bemoedigingen | 07 December 2009 | 12:13:57
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near. Do  not be anxious about anything, but in everything present your requests to God by prayer and by petition with thanksgiving.   And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Phil. 4:4-7

You are who you are for a reason
Religie/Christendom | Bemoedigingen | 05 December 2009 | 22:50:26

You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
called God's special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what He wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones he chose,
and no matter how you feel,
they were custom-designed with God's plan in mind,
and they bear the Master's seal.

No, that trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so;
but it was allowed to shape your heart
so that into his likeness you'd grow.

You are who you are for a reason.
You've been formed by the Master's rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
because there is a God!

God does big things with small deeds

God Does Big Things with Small Deeds
by Max Lucado

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin" (Zech. 4:10 NLT).

Begin. Just begin! What seems small to you might be huge to someone else. Just ask Bohn Fawkes. During World War II, he piloted a B-17. On one mission he sustained flak from Nazi antiaircraft guns. Even though his gas tanks were hit, the plane did not explode, and Fawkes was able to land the plane.

On the morning following the raid, Fawkes asked his crew chief for the German shell. He wanted to keep a souvenir of his incredible good fortune. The crew chief explained that not just one but eleven shells had been found in the gas tanks, none of which had exploded.

Technicians opened the missiles and found them void of explosive charge. They were clean and harmless and with one exception, empty. The exception contained a carefully rolled piece of paper. On it a message had been scrawled in the Czech language. Translated, the note read: "This is all we can do for you now."

A courageous assembly-line worker was disarming bombs and scribbled the note. He couldn't end the war, but he could save one plane. He couldn't do everything, but he could do something. So he did it.

God does big things with small deeds.

Against a towering giant, a brook pebble seems futile. But God used it to topple Goliath. Compared to the tithes of the wealthy, a widow's coins seem puny. But Jesus used them to inspire us. And in contrast with sophisticated priests and powerful Roman rulers, a cross-suspended carpenter seemed nothing but a waste of life. Few Jewish leaders mourned his death. Only a handful of friends buried his body. The people turned their attention back to the temple. Why not?

What power does a buried rabbi have? We know the answer. Mustard-seed and leaven-lump power. Power to tear away death rags and push away death rocks. Power to change history. In the hands of God, small seeds grow into sheltering trees. Tiny leaven expands into nourishing loaves.

Small deeds can change the world. Sow the mustard seed. Bury the leaven lump. Make the call. Write the check. Organize the committee

Moses had a staff.
David had a sling.
Samson had a jawbone.
Rahab had a string.
Mary had some ointment.
Aaron had a rod.
Dorcas had a needle.
All were used by God.
What do you have?

God inhabits the tiny seed, empowers the tiny deed. He cures the common life by giving no common life, by offering no common gifts. Don't discount the smallness of your deeds.

Jesus, my Beloved
Religie/Christendom | Gedichten | 03 December 2009 | 17:24:47

Jesus, my Beloved

Jesus, my Beloved
 My Prince of peace
 I love You, my Lord
 Because You loved me first

 There are no words
to express my love to You
 You are God alone
 Yet You love me still

 I lift up my hands
 to You, King of kings
 I fall down before
 my Great Redeemer

 Love is flowing
 from Your throne
 to my heart
 It refreshes me

 How
 can I thank You enough?
 How
 can I praise You accordingly?

 I thank You
 in the morning
 I thank You
 in the evening

 I praise You
 with my heart, my soul
 I praise You
 with my mind, my strength

 Lily
